The 112 Meditations · Attention

Attention between the eyebrows

Rest your attention softly at the point between the eyebrows, before thought begins.

The teaching, in plain words

Place your attention between the eyebrows, and let the mind rest there, before any thought. Let that space fill with a gentle sense of light.

From the Vigyan Bhairava Tantra

How to practice

  1. Sit upright and close your eyes.
  2. Bring a light, soft attention to the point between your eyebrows. Do not strain or cross your eyes.
  3. Let your attention rest there, as if looking out from that point.
  4. When thoughts come, notice them, and return to the quiet space between the brows.
  5. If it feels natural, imagine that space filling with a soft, gentle light.

Keep it gentle. If you feel pressure or a headache, let your attention widen and rest on the breath instead.
